How is Preputioplasty performed?
It is a surgical technique performed under general anaesthetic and takes around one hour in theatre. You are able to go home on the same day as long as someone collects you from the hospital.
We carry out this treatment where patients wish to retain their foreskin and at the same time correct issues such as phimosis – having a tight foreskin.
A Preputioplasty enables patients to clean underneath their foreskin and also fully retract it.
A Preputioplasty is also known as a “dorsal slit” procedure. It is known as this because an incision is made either side of the foreskin. This will allow you full retraction of the foreskin for sexual intercourse purposes without pain and discomfort.
Dissolvable sutures are used to close the wound and these will fall out naturally in the following weeks.
