As time passes by you may notice this curvature getting worse, especially at the onset of puberty. The curvature of the penis is formed because one side of the penis is larger than the other. This causes the penis to bend and is noticeable particularly on erection. The penis can form a bend upwards, downwards or to the left or right.

The incidence of congenital penile curvature is rare. Around 1% of males will be affected by this condition. It should be remembered that most men have some degree of curve to the penis, however, this is almost always very mild and presents no problems at all.

Congenital penile curvature is a condition present from birth, but the outcome of this is similar to the one from Peyronie's disease.

With congenital penile curvature, the angle is much more pronounced. This leads to some very limiting factors including:

How can you treat Congenital penile Curvature?

Congenital penile curvature is corrected surgically. To date, there are no proven methods to treat this condition without surgery. The procedure to correct the deformity is performed under general anaesthetic and takes around one hour. In most cases, you can go home on the same day as the surgery. There are a number of established surgical techniques to correct congenital penile curvature. The Surgeon will discuss with you the most appropriate surgical approach for your case. In essence, whichever approach is used the basic principle of the operation is to shorten the convex side of the penis so that is is the same as the convex aspect.

Following surgery, you should plan to take around one to two weeks off work depending on the type of work that you so.
Following surgery, the penis should be much straighter than before, and problems regarding sexual function should be greatly improved.
Many men are worried about the risk of penile shortening after this type of surgery. The risk of this happening is dependent on the following factors:

The angle of the curvature, if your bend is downwards, then there is a higher risk of penile shortening
More severe degrees of curvature and more prone to penile shortening
