In a local anaesthesia procedure, the local anaesthetic is injected into the scrotum to numb the area where the surgeon will operate. This should minimise any discomfort during the procedure. You will still feel some tugging and pulling in the area during the procedure, but not any pain. If you feel any undue discomfort you will be given more local anaesthetic.
In a conventional male vasectomy, after the injection of the local anaesthetic, a small cut is made in the scrotum from which the Surgeon will access the vas deferens. He will then cut the vas deferens and remove a small piece of it. The two ends are then tied and secured with a stitch. This procedure is repeated for the other vas deferens through the same incision. Sometimes the Surgeon may need to make a second incision to reach this other vas deferens.

It is normal to feel a little sore after the procedure. Depending on the type of work that you do, you may want to consider a short respite from work. If you have a sedentary job you may able to return to work as soon as the following day.

There is a very small chance that the procedure may not work. In rare cases the tubes that were divided can grow back together. If this happened you would need to have the procedure repeated.
